'Goldmound' Spiraea

Spiraea japonica 'Goldmound

'Goldmound' SpiraeaFlower Color:  Clusters of pink flowers in the late spring with residual flowers in summer and early fall.  Flowers are not particularly showy against the yellow foliage.

Size:  3-4' in height and 3-5' in width.  Very vigorous growth in the spring each season.

Foliage Color: Bright yellow or gold in spring, fading to a pale green in late summer.  Fall color is a nice orange color.  Foliage and foliage changes are the selling point for 'Goldmound'

Hardiness Zones: 4-8.  Performs well even in hot climates.  Many gold foliage plants struggle in Southern climates in the summer, but not 'Goldmound' Spirea.

Light Requirement: Full sun to part-shade.  Fuller with brighter foliage in more sun.

Drought Tolerance: Moderate to High.  Would rarely require water once established.

Notes: Bright yellow foliage all season long on 'Goldmound'.  Great plant for planting in large groups.  Tolerant of most soil types.  Some recurrent flowers in late summer and fall.  New growth has a reddish tinge.  Very widely available.  Deer resistant.
