'Goldflame' Spiraea

Spiraea x bumalda 'Goldflame'

'Goldflame' SpiraeaFlowers:  Clusters of pinkish-red flowers in the spring with residual flowers in summer.  Very vivid flowers against the yellow-green foliage.  One of the showier Spireas.

Size:  3-4' in height and 3-5' in width.  A low growing mounding habit that can easily be kept below 3 feet in height.  Grown for new foliage and flowers, so some pruning in early spring before leafing out is recommended.

Foliage Color: Bright yellow or gold in the spring with orange-red new growth, fading to green in late summer. Very nice orange fall color.  'Goldflame' is sold for the foliage as much as the flowers.

Hardiness Zones: 4-8.  Nice growth in most areas of the US.

Light Requirement: Full sun to part-shade.  Brighter foliage and flowers in the sun.

Drought Tolerance: Moderate to High.  Very low maintenance and tolerant of many soil types.  Almost no extra water would be required once established.

Notes:  The foliage is the selling point of 'Goldflame'.  It is attractive and changing season to season. Great plant for planting in large groups.  Some recurrent flowers in late summer and fall.  The dense mounding growth habit requires almost no pruning.  Very widely available.  Deer Resistant.
