Growth of up to 4 feet per year after 'Green Giant' roots in.
Foliage and Growth: Deep green fern-like foliage with a fast growing pyramidal shape with very little maintenance. Very dense growth provides dense screening.
Hardiness Zones: 5-8
Light Requirement: Full Sun to Part-Shade. Fuller growth habit in full sun.
Drought Tolerance: Moderate. Perhaps more drought tolerant than Leyland Cypress. Some additional water in mid-summer to extend growth season is recommended.
Notes: US National Arboretum introduction. 'Green Giant' has become very popular. Its rapid growth and resistance to pest make it an ideal screening plant. Much more wind and ice tolerant than Leyland Cypress. It prefers moist well-drained soil. Deer resistant. Very widely available. Spring fertilize to push growth.
