'Gulfstream' Nandina
Nandina domestica 'Gulfstream'
Size: 2-3 feet in height and width.
Possibly taller if left uncut for years. This dwarf cultivar does
not sucker as readily as other Nandina, which makes it a very desirable
variety. Great for low foundation plantings.
Foliage Color and Flowers: Evergreen foliage with very tight compact growth habit. Foliage is a dark-green color that becomes tinged with red and orange in fall and winter. Very nice bronze new growth in the spring. 'Gulfstream is a non-flowering or fruiting variety. It is primarily grown for it foliage.
Hardiness Zones: 6-9
Light Requirement: Full-sun to Part-shade is best. Usually more vigorous in part-shade.
Drought Tolerance: Moderate to High. Additional water is rarely needed on any nandina variety.
Notes: Nandina 'Gulfstream' is great along sidewalks and other narrow spaces. Very widely available. This dwarf suckers less than other Nandina domestica, which makes it a better low maintenance ornamental plant. Introduced by Hines Horticultural, Inc as a sport of Nandina domestica 'Compacta'. Very compact and easy to grow.
