'Little Gem' Magnolia
Magnolia grandiflora 'Little Gem'
Size:
15-20' in height and 8-10' in width. Not a fast growing
Magnolia.
Foliage Color and Flowers: Dark green glossy leaves with rust color backs. Evergreen. Fragrant white flowers 8-10" across in late spring and summer. Foliage colors provide very nice contrast.
Hardiness Zones: 7-9
Light Requirement: Full-Sun to Part-Shade.
Drought Tolerance: Moderate to High. Some additional watering in persistant dry periods is advised.
Notes: Very compact upright conical growth habit. Very fragrant flowers. This variety has a long flowering season that can extend well into fall. Very nice glossy foliage. 'Little Gem' is more susceptible to winter injury than other varieties. It should not be placed where winter winds can burn it. Very popular, because of the narrow growth habit. Spring slow-release fertilizer is recommended.
