'Limelight' Hydrangea
Hydrangea paniculata 'Limelight' (Hardy Hydrangea)
Flower Color: A soft greenish-white colored
large cluster of flowers. The clusters sit high on this variety. Begins
flowering in mid-summer and last until frost. Flower clusters are up to
12". Very showy variety. Blooms on new wood, which
makes it very reliable.
Size: 6-10' in height and 4-8' in width. 'Limelight can easily be kept a 4-6 feet in height, but if left alone could become a small tree. Very fast growing.
Foliage: Dark green serrated leaves that are very attractive in spring. Deciduous. Looks a bit forlorn by late summer in the south.
Hardiness Zones: 3-8. If you kill a 'Limelight' Hydrangea, give up.
Light Requirement: Sun to Part-shade. Less flowers in deeper shade.
Drought Tolerance: Moderate. Very low maintenance and hard to kill almost all Hydrangea paniculata. Extra water during flowering is beneficial.
Notes: Very impressive flowers on 'Limelight'. Larger flowers each season. Pruning should be done in the fall to prevent spring bud loss. Patent protected. Well-drained moist soil is best for most Hydrangea varieties. Very popular variety and now widely available.
