'Fireball' Hibiscus
Hibiscus x 'Fireball' (Rose Mallow, Swamp Mallow)
Flower Color: Bright red 10-12" flowers from
mid-summer to fall. 'Fireball' is one of the better red varieties.
Size: 3-5' in height and width. Do not prune until early spring.
Hardiness Zones: 5-9
Foliage: Thin textured foliage with a purple hue on the new growth. Very interesting.
Light Requirement: Full Sun to Part-Shade. Some afternoon shade is preferable.
Drought Tolerance: Needs moist well drained soil. Do not allow Hardy Hibiscus to become dry or they will slow flower production.
Notes: 'Fireball' is a Fleming brothers introduction. Very late to break dormancy in the spring. Very good flower production on this variety. Attracts hummingbirds and butterflies. Allow for adequate room for this variety, because it returns bigger each year.
