'Fantasy' Crapemyrtle

Lagerstroemia fauriei 'Fantasy'

'Fantasy' CrapemyrtleFlower Color:  Large clusters of white flowers from mid-summer until fall.

Size:  20-30' in height and 15-20' in width

Fall Color: Orange and yellow fall foliage.

Hardiness Zones: 6-9.  It is best not to fertilize this variety after spring, or winter damage could occur.

Light Requirement:  Full sun to part-shade.  Can become a shade tree.

Drought Tolerance:  Very high, but some additional watering during flowering months will extend bloom time.

Notes:  'Fantasy' was brought to the US National Arboretum from Japan by then employee John Creech in the 1950's.  This variety was used to cross with Lagerstroemia indica to produce many of the varieties we see today.  The exfoliating bark of this tree is worth having with or without flowers.  Very resistant to powdery mildew.  Typically grown as a multi-trunked specimen.  Not widely available, but worth looking for.  Need plenty of space.
