'Cherry Dazzle' Crapemyrtle

Lagerstroemia 'GAMAD I'

'Cherry Dazzle' CrapemyrtleFlower Color:  Bright red clusters of flowers throughout the summer.  The only true red dwarf crapemyrtle.

Size:  4-5' in height and 4-5' in width.  This variety is moderately slow growing and can be kept 2-3 feet in height.  Can be used as an accent plant along sidewalks or as a low hedge.

Foliage: Burgundy new foliage that becomes dark green and wavy.  The foliage stays very clean all summer long.  Purplish-red foliage in the fall.

Hardiness Zones:  6-9.  Would need protection in zone 6.

Light Requirement:  Full Sun to Part-Shade.  This variety looks a little bedraggled by the end of summer in full sun.

Drought Tolerance:  Very good, but additional water during flowering months will increase the amount of blooms.

Notes:  'Cherry Dazzle' is a recent introduction from Dr. Michael Dirr and is part of the Razzle Dazzle line of Crapemyrtles.  This variety is patent protected and propagation is prohibited.  Very resistant to powdery mildew.  Has become very widely available.  Spring pruning produces a fuller plant with more flowers.
