'Burgundy Cotton' Crapemyrtle
Lagerstroemia indica 'Whit VI' PPAF
Flower Color: White
flowers from mid-summer until frost. Very striking contrast
between flowers and foliage on 'Burgundy Cotton'.
Size: 15' in height and 10-12' in width. Rapid growth rate
Fall Color: Orange and Red. Good, but not great fall color.
Foliage: Burgundy New Growth, that fades to green near flowering time. The foliage of this variety is as nice as the flowers.
Hardiness Zones: 7-9
Light Requirement: Full Sun to part-shade.
Drought Tolerance: High, but would like a little extra water during flowering. Mulch the roots well, but keep it off the trunk
Notes: Developed by Dr. Carl Whitcomb. Very showy variety. Very resistant to powdery mildew. Typically grown as a multi-trunked specimen. Very widely available. Spring pruning and a slow-release fertilizer application helps increase flowers.
