'Arapaho' Crapemyrtle
Lagerstroemia indica x fauriei 'Arapaho'
Flower Color: Red
flowers from mid-summer until fall on 'Arapaho'. Not as red as
some of the newer cultivars, such as
'Red Rocket' or
'Dynamite'
Size: 15-20' in height and 8-12' in width. Rapid growth can be expected.
Foliage: Dark green foliage with maroon new growth. Very disease resistant. Nice spring foliage.
Fall Color: Purple and Red. Very nice fall color unless dry conditions persist.
Hardiness Zones: 7-9
Light Requirement: Full Sun to Part-Shade. Best performance in the sun.
Drought Tolerance: High, but additional water during flowering will increase the size and number of flowers.
Notes: 'Arapaho' is a US National Arboretum introduction. Very resistant to powdery mildew. Typically grown as a multi-trunked specimen. Not as vibrant red as many of the newer cultivars, but has an upright habit that makes it useful in narrow spaces. Spring pruning and a slow-release fertilizer application is typical.
