Large clusters of watermelon red flowers from mid-summer until fall.
This variety was always called red until recent introductions such as
'Red Rocket' and 'Dynamite'.
Size: 15-20' in height and 12-15' in width. Upright vase shaped. Nice weeping canopy at maturity.
Fall Color: Orange and Red. One of the best varieties for fall color.
Hardiness Zones: 7-9
Light Requirement: Full Sun
Drought Tolerance: High. Mulch well and water during flowering will increase size and quality of flowering.
Notes: 'Tuscarora' is a US National Arboretum introduction. Very good exfoliating bark. Very resistant to powdery mildew. Typically grown as a multi-trunked specimen. Very widely available. This variety is a very common in urban plantings. The high weeping canopy of 'Tuscarora' makes it a shade tree alternative.
