'Honeycomb' Butterfly Bush

Buddleia x weyeriana 'Honeycomb'

'Honeycomb' Butterfly BushFlowers:  Very large clusters of bright yellow flowers throughout the summer.  The flowers are very fragrant.  Attracts Butterflies and Hummingbirds.

Size:  8 feet in height and 6 feet in width.  Some mid-summer pruning will help give 'Honeycomb' a dense habit.

Foliage:  Green foliage with silver backs. Very nice in early to mid-spring.

Hardiness Zones: 6-9

Light Requirement: Full sun to part-shade.  The more sun the tighter the growth habit.

Drought Tolerance: Moderate.  Some additional water in the summer will help increase flowering

Notes:  'Honeycomb' was introduced by Dr. Michael Dirr.  Very nice foliage on newer plantings.  It becomes very woody after a couple of years and becomes difficult to control.  Very susceptible to spider mites which are difficult to control on the backs of the leaves.  This variety is low maintenance for about two seasons and then should be replaced.  Also butterflies seem to be less attracted to the lighter colors.  Cut back to about 18" every spring.
