'Blue Chip' Butterfly Bush
Buddleia davidii 'Blue Chip' PPAF
Color:
Lavender clusters of flowers on new growth all summer
long. Some mid-summer pruning keeps this variety blooming heavily
Size: 3' in height and width. 'Blue Chip' keeps an almost perfect broad flat shape with limited pruning.
Hardiness Zones: 5-9
Light Requirement: Full sun to part-shade. More sun on 'Blue Chip' is best.
Drought Tolerance: Moderate. Some additional water in the summer will increase flower production.
Notes: Developed at NC State University by Dr. Dennis Werner. It reputedly produces little or no seeds which will prevent it from becoming invasive. This variety has become very widely available. Very brittle wood. Be very careful with these overpriced plants. Do not place in high traffic area, because plants are easily broken. 'Blue Chip' is yet another plant that has to be grown in a special pot. These pots are difficult for nurserymen to reuse and are an environmental nightmare.
